Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation is a hands-on commonly used by chiropractors and physical therapists to treat conditions such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Discover the benefits of spinal manipulation with our expert therapists at our clinic.

At ThePhysiotherapyDOC we LOVE to help people. We use many different approaches including massage, cupping, spinal mobilisations, and acupuncture.

What are Spinal Manipulations?

Spinal manipulations are a technique used by the Physio where they use their hands to provide a ‘thrust’ to a specific joint in your spine. The amount of force generated by the Physio depends on what is needed.

What is the ‘CLICK’? What does it do?

The ‘Click’, is actually called a ‘Cavitation’. A joint in your body is made up of connecting bones, joints are surrounded by a capsule containing a fluid call ‘synovial fluid’ this fluid acts in a similar way as oil does to a car engine….it lubricates. Inside this fluid are tine little carbon dioxide filled gas pockets. When the Physio provides the ‘thrust’ the gas escapes from the joint, creating the noise of a click.

Does it hurt?

No, it doesn’t hurt, patients tend to experience a feeling of ‘instant relief when receiving this treatment. It can be a bit uncomfortable when getting it for the 1st time as people don’t know what to expect, but once you have had it, you will be addicted and want it all the time.

We know how difficult it is to even get an appointment at the doctors, never mind seeing a Physio, and when you do, all you get given is painkillers and the odd exercise.

We are not a fan of people having to ‘survive’ on painkillers to get through the day, it puts you on to a road to nowhere and eventually ends in people having a significantly poorer level of quality of life. We are a HUGE believer in hands on treatment and we tailor our sessions to be mainly hands on because that’s what we are experts at, exercises and stretches can be done in your own time, when you’re with us, we get straight to work on easing your pain.

When pain happens, we know it’s very easy to just take some paracetamol and get through the day, or even just ignore it and hope it will just get better, go away, or be sorted by rest or a good night’s sleep.

Sadly, this is never the case, 1 of the things we find ourselves saying to patients all the time is how we still haven’t worked out the reason as to why we don’t get help straight away for our pain. If the car makes a grinding noise, its booked in the garage that day. Your phone screen flickers…. hello repair shop, but when our body aches, creaks, cracks and pops with pain, what do we do? “Ahhh it’ll be ok”. The body is the most important thing of all that we need to look after, and we don’t.

Pain happens for a reason, it’s our body’s way of alerting us to an issue that needs looking at, don’t ignore it, get it looked at, 1000’s of people who have given us the chance to help them have all said how they can’t believe how bad they were, and wonder how they got through the day at work, or survived on so little sleep because the pain they were in was taking over their life.

Attention

We will go above and beyond to get you in for an appointment, but due to high Physio demand in the NHS our appointments are in HIGH demand and go fast.

Current NHS waiting lists for Physiotherapy are at around 6700 patients, to put that into context, if 20 NHS physios see 10 patients a day, that’s 200 appointments a day, 1000 appointments a week over 5 days

Thats nearly 7 weeks wait for only 1 appointment (and we all know that it’s going to be double the time).

Lets talk about what treatment you need

Does this sound like you?

Trust us, we have seen and heard everything, some of the common things people say to us include:

  • I just thought the pain would go away after a while, but it's still there.
  • I went to the Doctor and all he gave me was some tablets, I was then told to rest, and he has referred me for Physio, but there’s a 2-month waiting list.
  • There’s no point even trying to get a doctor's appointment, they don’t even pick up the phone.
  • I felt it stiffen up, so I rested for a few days, and it went, but as soon as I did something it came back.

Spinal Manipulation Therapy in Billingham
Would recommend The Physio Doc to anyone... easy to book an appointment on website with speedy response of suggested dates and times. Physio session itself with Kate was excellent who quickly located the issue, received sports massage and acupuncture to relieve the tightness in my calf... Great service will definitely use again!
Wasn’t sure what to expect as this has been my first experience with physio but decided to try these guys as I’d been struggling with lower back pain. Had my third session with Kate today and she’s made a massive difference! From explaining where the pain is, what it is, how I can help in the future, exercises to do and the massages. Been great throughout - would definitely recommend!
I highly recommend Kate. It’s one of the most effective physio sessions I had. The deep massage really sorted my back out and I had so much more movement the next day.
amazing! thank you so much for your service - Kate was brilliant, i feel so much better after the session.
My problem was sciatica and during my initial visit, Kate gave me an assessment, massage and quickly found the point of pain. She had a lovely friendly, confident & professional approach and I received good advice, exercises to do, and on another occasion Kate gave me acupuncture to help the stress I was feeling with the sciatic nerve pain. I haven’t given 5 stars because, for me personally, Kate’s hands were too cold and needed warming beforehand.
Saw Kate for a few sessions for treatment for my shoulder and arm. Apart from physio Kate gave me exercises to do, a combination of which sorted my arm/shoulder issues. Can highly recommend.
From booking to aftercare the team are superb, professional and personal. Everything they do is focused on you and your recovery! Cannot recommend the whole team highly enough.
Amazing staff throughout. Very professional, Jonny was great in helping me sort my shoulder problems. Couldn’t recommend these guys enough. I’ll definitely be using them again if needed.
Try this place! Went for a sports massage as my legs were constantly aching after running. Jonny sorted me out! Done an hour on specific parts of my body that i said were hurting and i feel 1000x better for it. Will visit again thank you!
Seen promptly. Jonny was amazing. He knew exactly what the problem was, and solved it. He's also given me some exercises to help prevent reoccurrence. Also a very friendly reception team helped to put me at ease from the moment I arrived.
I've been twice for different issues at different times - once for neck pain and most recently for knee pain. I've had the most contact with Jess on reception and with Jonny for my physio. Jess is super lovely, really friendly and approachable, and Jonny is knowledgeable and explains everything in detail. It's really easy to book an appointment, and to cancel if needed. I have exercises to do ongoing to strengthen my knee, but I wouldn't hesitate coming back if needed.
Had my first appointment with Danny tonight and came away absolutely over the moon. He explained everything fully (and generally good crack and a lovely man as well) and the massage/cracking has made me feel a million dollars. Looking forward to seeing the improvement in my back/pelvis/neck on my next appointment in 4 weeks after incorporating all of the stretches/exercises. Thanks Danny - totally recommend this place!
Been here a few times now for various injuries and always came away feeling brand new.
I attended physiotherapy DOC. Following a car crash injury. The staff from the receptionist to the physios, are amazing. Made the whole process extremely easy and I can't thank them enough. Everything was explained to me about my injury the process if healing. I felt very comfortable, and at ease while having the physio sessions. Would definitely recommend to any one who is in the need for physiotherapy. You won't be disappointed.
Excellent! They sorted my husband’s shoulder out in 2 sessions.
I would like start with from the moment I walked in reception how lovely and friendly Jessica the receptionist was. Made me feel very welcomed and had a nice chat with her. Good first impression. Jonny came through and introduced himself and took me to the treatment room where he asked questions about my shoulder pain and talked me through what could be the cause of the pain etc. He then proceeded to do the treatment to which he found maybe the cause of my pain and explained what it was and how he's going to treat it. After treatment was finished he took me back to reception where I booked another treatment which I've just had today. I've got to say even after the first visit I could tell a massive difference and my pain has totally eased. Got to say Jonny was also very friendly and extremely good at what he does. I would 100% recommend The Physiotherapy DOC and wouldn't hesitate to go back. Thank you so much
Kate was great. Helped with my neck pain through massage
After an issue with my neck, I was referred to physio. I looked at local practices and found the Physiotherapy Doc close by.

I cannot express in words how grateful I was that they fit me in for an appointment that same day.

I wasn’t expecting a miracle, because I know that these things can take time. However, after a consultation and some initial remedial work, I walked out of the building feeling fantastic in comparison to how I went in!

I’m still having treatment and following the steps and exercises provided and I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve felt this mobile for a long time!

The staff are extremely professional and the treatment and advice has worked for me. The equipment is always clean and there’s always a happy face when I arrive.
So knowledgeable and professional
I had tried to manage my injury myself but needed professionals to massage out all the knots
